Kingmakers is back in the spotlight, and Redemption Road Games has finally offered a much clearer look at the unusual systems powering its medieval time-travel war. In a new 12-minute gameplay presentation, the studio breaks down how third-person shooting, large-scale battles and real-time strategy are being combined into a single experience. The concept remains deliberately extravagant, but the latest footage makes the project feel considerably more coherent than its initial premise might suggest.

The story places players in the role of a soldier from a future on the verge of destruction, sent roughly five centuries into the past with one objective: change history before humanity reaches its catastrophic fate. The mission leads directly into the rebellion of Owain Glyndŵr in 1403, where modern military technology suddenly becomes part of a medieval conflict. Assault rifles, shotguns and grenade launchers can devastate traditional formations, while motorcycles, armoured vehicles, helicopters and even tanks dramatically expand the player's destructive arsenal.

Kingmakers is not limited to direct combat. Players can instantly shift into an overhead tactical perspective and issue orders to massive armies made up of swordsmen, spearmen, archers and cavalry. According to the developers, some confrontations can feature around 10,000 individually simulated soldiers. Units react to threats, battlefield conditions, morale and loyalty, giving the battles a level of systemic complexity that goes beyond simply throwing thousands of characters onto the screen.

The game also features settlement development, resource management, equipment upgrades, enemy commanders and reinforcements arriving throughout battles. Cooperative multiplayer will allow up to four players to fight together while balancing frontline combat and strategic command. One major question remains unanswered, however: Kingmakers still has no new release date following its previous delay. A fresh Steam playtest registration is now available, giving interested players another opportunity to potentially experience its ambitious mix of medieval warfare and modern firepower before launch.
