Lara Croft is stepping back into the spotlight as Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog unveil a brand-new trailer for Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, the upcoming remake of the legendary 1996 adventure. Revealed during the franchise's 30th anniversary celebrations at TR30 Derby and MCM London, the footage offers a fresh look at the iconic locations, dangerous encounters, and unforgettable moments that helped establish Tomb Raider as one of gaming's most influential franchises. Published by Amazon Game Studios, the project aims to recreate Lara's original journey with modern visuals while preserving the adventurous spirit of the classic experience.
The trailer takes players through four major destinations: Peru, Greece, Egypt, and the mysterious lost civilization of Atlantis. Familiar challenges return with a significant visual upgrade, including the enormous Atlas puzzle, terrifying Atlantean creatures, and the legendary statue of King Midas, whose golden touch remains a deadly threat. Lara's signature acrobatics and dual-pistol combat also take center stage, combining the recognizable elements of the original game with more detailed environments, improved character animations, and contemporary presentation.
However, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is more than a straightforward graphical overhaul. The developers are introducing several gameplay improvements, including skill trees, crafting mechanics, and a new combat feature called Focus. This system allows Lara to accumulate energy by attacking enemies, avoiding incoming strikes, and surviving dangerous encounters. Once activated, Focus slows down the surrounding action, giving players greater control over Lara's movements and allowing them to perform spectacular acrobatic maneuvers inspired by her original fighting style. These additions are designed to modernize the experience without abandoning the gameplay identity that defined the series.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is scheduled to launch on February 12, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Players who pre-order the game can unlock an alternative outfit inspired by Lara's appearance in the Survivor trilogy, while the Deluxe and Collector's Editions include 48-hour early access. The franchise also has another major release planned for 2027 with Tomb Raider: Catalyst, an entirely new adventure that will take Lara to Northern India, where an ancient catastrophe has exposed long-hidden secrets and awakened mysterious forces.
