Neoshoco’s supernatural comedy manga Phantom Busters is officially heading to television. A dedicated website launched on September 24 to confirm that an anime adaptation is currently in production, with its broadcast scheduled for sometime in 2027. To celebrate the announcement, manga creator Neoshoco also shared a special illustration featuring the series’ characters. Additional information regarding the animation studio, production team, cast and exact release window has yet to be revealed.

Published since 2023 in Shueisha’s Jump SQ., Phantom Busters mixes school comedy, supernatural encounters and an unconventional approach to exorcism. The story follows Eugene Korekishi, an academically gifted student who refuses to believe in ghosts, until he crosses paths with Mogari Shishikuno. Unlike more traditional exorcists, Mogari deals with spirits by literally consuming them. There is one major complication, however: he cannot actually see ghosts without the help of someone possessing supernatural sight.

Their unlikely partnership eventually leads to the creation of a school exorcism club, joined by Kaoru Kanzaki and later involving Kotaro Tamon, a student capable of communicating with spirits but struggling considerably when interacting with living people. The group’s unusual personalities and supernatural abilities turn what should have been an ordinary high school experience into a series of bizarre paranormal adventures.

The manga has already reached an important commercial milestone, with more than 1.4 million copies in circulation when digital sales are included. Shueisha released Volume 7 on February 4, while Volume 8 is scheduled for October 2. Viz Media publishes the English edition, with Volume 5 planned for October 6, and the series is also available digitally through the Shonen Jump app and Shueisha’s MANGA Plus platform.
