The Record of a Fallen Vampire is officially heading to television, with a new anime adaptation scheduled to premiere in 2027. The announcement was accompanied by a first teaser trailer, a key visual, and the reveal of the main creative team and voice cast. The series will be produced through a collaboration between Zero-G and Liber, bringing Kyo Shirodaira and Yuri Kimura's dark fantasy manga back into the spotlight nearly two decades after its original conclusion.
Yūma Uchida will voice Rose Red Strauss, the pure-blooded vampire who once ruled the Night Kingdom, while Aino Shimada has been cast as Bridget Irving Frostheart, a dhampir whose life spans more than a thousand years. Mankyū, known for projects such as Migi & Dali and Fist of the North Star: Strawberry Flavor, will direct the adaptation and also oversee the series composition. Character designs will be handled by jimao, while Evan Call, whose previous credits include Frieren: Beyond Journey's End and Violet Evergarden, will compose the soundtrack.
The story centers on Strauss, a fallen Vampire King who has spent centuries searching for his lost queen after humans sealed her away behind countless false barriers. His endless journey becomes even more dangerous with the existence of the Black Swan, a mysterious power that reincarnates inside a human girl every 50 years and is capable of destroying both the king and his queen. Each new incarnation becomes stronger, turning Strauss' quest into a battle against an increasingly formidable threat.
Originally serialized in Square Enix's Shonen Gangan from December 2003 to 2007, the manga concluded with nine collected volumes. The franchise is also preparing for a major comeback in print, as Shirodaira and Kimura are set to launch a new series titled Vampire Jūjikai: Inu ni wa Inu no Uta on October 9, 2026. With a new manga and a television adaptation now in development, The Record of a Fallen Vampire is entering a significant new phase almost twenty years after the original story ended.
