The universe of Hideo Kojima's acclaimed video game franchise is preparing to expand beyond gaming with DEATH STRANDING ISOLATIONS, an original animated series scheduled to premiere in 2027. A newly released teaser trailer and promotional visual offer an early glimpse into this upcoming production, which will be available exclusively on Disney+ and Hulu. Developed in collaboration with KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS, the project introduces a different perspective on the mysterious world established in the original game, with a new storyline exploring the consequences of humanity's struggle to reconnect.
Rather than revisiting the adventures of Sam Porter Bridges, the anime takes place in North America shortly after the continent has been reunited through the Chiral Network. Although this technological achievement has helped restore communication between isolated communities, it has also created unexpected challenges. The narrative follows several individuals whose experiences differ significantly from Sam's journey, including an elderly man with an unconventional approach to connecting people, a female soldier trapped in an endless cycle of conflict, and a young boy struggling with anger and frustration.
At the center of the story is a young girl who has deliberately withdrawn from society following the devastating events known as the Death Stranding. These supernatural catastrophes occur when entities from the world of the dead enter the realm of the living, triggering destructive explosions. Having grown accustomed to solitude, the girl gradually finds herself confronted with unexpected encounters that threaten to disrupt her isolated existence. Her journey will explore the emotional consequences of separation, human relationships, and survival in a fractured world.
The anime is directed by Takayuki Sano, with Tow Ubukata overseeing the series composition and screenplay. Ilya Kuvshinov is responsible for the original character designs, while E&H production, known for its work on Ninja Kamui and BULLET/BULLET, handles the animation. Hideo Kojima serves as executive producer, with KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS supervising the project. Originally developed by Kojima Productions and published through Sony Interactive Entertainment and 505 Games, Death Stranding continues to expand its fictional universe through this new animated adaptation.
