Murciélago is preparing to make its television anime debut in January 2027, and the production team has now offered a first major glimpse at the upcoming adaptation. A new teaser trailer and promotional visual introduce the violent and unconventional atmosphere of Kana Yoshimura's manga, while also confirming the main voice cast. Hitomi Ueda will portray Kuroko Koumori, with Minori Suzuki voicing Hinako Tozakura and Sumire Uesaka taking the role of Chiyo Yanaoka. HIDIVE has confirmed that it will exclusively stream the series in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.
The story centers on Kuroko, a former death-row inmate who receives an unusual opportunity to work for the state instead of facing execution. Her new mission involves confronting criminals considered too dangerous for conventional methods. Accompanying her is Hinako, an exceptionally talented driver who serves as both her partner and watchdog. Together, the pair are thrown into increasingly disturbing cases, creating a dark action series built around brutal confrontations, crime and a deliberately eccentric relationship between its two protagonists.
Production is being handled by Satelight and Staple Entertainment. Matsuo Asami is directing the anime, while Takashi Naoya serves as chief director and is also responsible for series composition. Kiyoshi Tateishi is overseeing the character designs, with Masanori Akita and Yūichi Tsuchiya composing the soundtrack. The recently released teaser provides the first opportunity to see how the production intends to translate the manga's intense personality and violent action into animation ahead of its 2027 premiere.
Kana Yoshimura launched Murciélago in Square Enix's Young Gangan magazine in 2013, and the series has continued to expand over more than a decade. Its 29th collected volume was released in Japan on July 24, while Yen Press published the 27th English volume on September 22. The manga has now surpassed 2.3 million copies in circulation worldwide. Its popularity also led to the spinoff Murciélago Byproduct Araña, centered on Reiko Kuchiba, which ran from 2018 until 2020.
