The original animated film ghost - end of night, Shingo Natsume’s first entirely original theatrical feature-length animation, has just unveiled its very first teaser trailer. The video also reveals the main cast ahead of the film’s Japanese release, now set for February 11, 2027. Mayu Hotta will voice Neekei, while Issey Takahashi will portray Mass. The project is being produced by MADHOUSE, with Bandai Namco Filmworks handling its distribution in Japan.

Shingo Natsume plays a central role in the film’s creation, serving as both its director and screenplay writer. The original concept is credited to Shingo Natsume, Tomohiro Suzuki, Bandai Namco Filmworks, and MADHOUSE. Natsume Ono is responsible for the original character designs, while Norifumi Kugai is handling the character designs for the animation. This creative team is set to bring to life a science-fiction universe presented as particularly detailed from a visual standpoint, with a strongly distinctive artistic identity.

Music will also be an important element of ghost - end of night. The soundtrack was composed by Ohzora Kimishima, while the band Hitsujibungaku handled the main theme as well as the songs featured in the film. In total, the band created six tracks specifically for the feature, including the insert song “Sugar,” which has already been highlighted in the first promotional footage. The collaboration between the film’s visual world and its musical direction is expected to play an important role in the work’s overall atmosphere.

The story takes place in the near future, where work is no longer necessary. The narrative follows Neekei, a determined young girl trying to understand what can still be considered “real” in a society dominated by content and by an order she refuses to passively accept. ghost - end of night thus aims to explore its heroine’s quest for authenticity within a profoundly transformed world, combining this reflection with ambitious direction and a distinctive visual universe. The first teaser now offers an initial glimpse of this concept ahead of the film’s release in Japanese theaters in February 2027.
