Nintendo has reached another major commercial milestone, with the Nintendo Switch 2 surpassing 26 million units sold worldwide. According to the company's financial results released on November 5, 2026, the console had accumulated 26.35 million sales as of September 30, including 6.49 million units during the current fiscal year, which began in April. The original Nintendo Switch also continues to maintain an impressive position in the gaming industry, reaching 157.20 million units sold since its debut in March 2017. This achievement places Nintendo's first hybrid console ahead of the Nintendo DS and makes it the company's most successful gaming system to date.
Software performance has been equally significant for Nintendo's latest hardware. Switch 2 games have collectively generated 73.21 million sales, with 24.49 million copies purchased during the ongoing fiscal year. Digital purchases have also become increasingly important, representing 60.7% of Nintendo's combined software sales across Switch and Switch 2, an increase of 6.2 percentage points compared with the previous year. Mario Kart World currently dominates the Switch 2 charts with 16.48 million copies sold, followed by Donkey Kong Bananza at 5.05 million. Pokémon Legends: Z-A Nintendo Switch 2 Edition and Pokémon Pokopia have each recorded 4.04 million sales, while Splatoon Raiders, Kirby Air Riders, Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave and the new Star Fox title have also contributed to the console's expanding software library.
Meanwhile, the original Switch continues to benefit from its extensive catalogue of successful games. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe remains its biggest commercial hit with 72 million copies sold, followed by Animal Crossing: New Horizons at 50.63 million and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate at 38.50 million. Other major titles include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Recent releases have also performed strongly, with Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream reaching 8.81 million copies and Rhythm Heaven Groove recording 2.89 million sales.
The Switch 2 established its commercial momentum immediately after launching in June 2025, selling more than 3.5 million units worldwide within just four days, a record for Nintendo hardware. Its rapid expansion also allowed it to surpass the Wii U's lifetime sales during its first year on the market. Despite subsequent retail price increases in Japan, Europe and North America, the console has continued to attract consumers. With the original Switch now ranking as the second best-selling gaming console in history, behind Sony's PlayStation 2, Nintendo enters the remainder of its fiscal year with two commercially successful generations of hardware.
