Square Enix used Tokyo Game Show 2026 to put the spotlight back on Final Fantasy Resonance, unveiling a fresh trailer that offers a more extensive look at the RPG’s colorful HD-2D universe. The new footage moves between cinematic sequences, exploration across richly detailed environments and several encounters showcasing the game’s turn-based battle system. The presentation is accompanied by “INSIDE”, a track performed by Japanese artist WurtS, giving the trailer a distinctive musical identity.

While Final Fantasy Resonance draws inspiration from Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, Square Enix is rebuilding that material as a full premium RPG designed for consoles and PC. The adventure centers on a group of companions confronted with a growing danger threatening their world. Longtime fans will also recognize several staples of the franchise, including crystals, airships, espers and moogles, alongside characters and references connected to the wider Final Fantasy universe.

Battles place particular emphasis on understanding enemy vulnerabilities. Striking the right weaknesses can destabilize opponents, break through their defenses and create opportunities for additional actions. Party members also have access to powerful Resonance attacks, while Visions inspired by iconic heroes from previous Final Fantasy titles can provide further support during combat.

Its combination of pixel-based characters and detailed 3D environments will inevitably evoke Octopath Traveler, but Final Fantasy Resonance appears determined to establish its own identity by taking advantage of decades of characters, creatures and concepts from Square Enix’s flagship RPG franchise. The game is scheduled to launch on October 22, 2026, for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
