Denuvo has taken its fight against PC game piracy into the legal arena by filing a federal lawsuit against Voices38, the anonymous cracker that gained significant attention within the gaming community throughout late 2025 and 2026. The complaint was filed on September 14, 2026, before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California and focuses on the alleged distribution of tools capable of bypassing Denuvo Anti-Tamper protection in 26 different PC games.

Rather than relying on ownership of the games themselves, Denuvo is building its case around the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. The company argues that Voices38 distributed patches specifically designed to circumvent the technological protection system it licenses to video game publishers. Denuvo is seeking financial damages as well as a court injunction intended to prevent the defendant from developing or distributing similar solutions for both currently protected titles and future releases.

Voices38 became particularly visible for using a more traditional approach to cracking Denuvo-protected games. Unlike some alternative methods based on hypervisors, which may require users to disable certain Windows security functions, its releases generally relied on replacement files. In some cases, however, parts of the Denuvo system reportedly remained active even after these patches were installed.

The biggest challenge for the lawsuit may now be identifying the individual or group operating behind the Voices38 alias. Denuvo intends to obtain information associated with accounts on platforms including Reddit, Discord and Steam through legal subpoenas. Even if those requests lead to an identity, enforcement could become significantly more complicated if the defendant is located outside the United States. Meanwhile, the case is unlikely to end the wider debate surrounding Denuvo, particularly among PC players concerned about possible performance impact and the long-term preservation of games.
