Activision has lifted the curtain on the campaign of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 with a new trailer presented during Xbox’s Tokyo Game Show 2026 showcase. This latest chapter once again places Captain Price at the center of an international crisis, but this time the Korean Peninsula appears to serve as one of the campaign’s key locations. With open warfare consuming the region and a highly dangerous weapon at risk of being captured, Price and his allies find themselves drawn into a conflict capable of escalating far beyond Asia.

One of the trailer’s biggest surprises is the introduction of The Archer, the primary antagonist portrayed by acclaimed Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen. Activision is keeping the character’s motivations and exact involvement in the story under wraps for now, presumably to preserve several of the campaign’s major twists. The footage nevertheless suggests that The Archer will have a central role in the events surrounding the mysterious weapon and Price’s increasingly precarious situation.

Although the presentation did not reveal the campaign’s mission structure in detail, it provided a much stronger sense of the characters, locations and scale of the story. Activision also reconfirmed the worldwide launch for October 23, 2026. Players who preorder either the Standard Digital Edition or the Vault Edition will be able to access the campaign from October 16, giving them a full week to experience the story before the official release and the expected influx of multiplayer players.

Visitors attending Tokyo Game Show will also have an opportunity to play Modern Warfare 4 through Xbox partner Happinet, although the playable demonstration will focus on multiplayer rather than the newly revealed campaign. The game is currently in development for PC via Steam, Microsoft Store and Battle.net, as well as Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2.
