Tokyo Game Show 2026 attracted 257,642 visitors to Makuhari Messe between September 17 and 20, confirming the Japanese event's status as one of the world's major gaming gatherings. Attendance was slightly below the 263,101 visitors recorded in 2025. The figure represents daily entries rather than unique visitors, meaning someone attending several days is counted once for each day they entered the venue.

The largest crowd arrived on Saturday, September 19, when 78,678 people attended the first public day. Sunday followed with 72,789 visitors. The two industry-focused days welcomed 53,630 attendees on September 17 and 52,545 on September 18. Organizers had originally planned a third public day on September 21, which is a national holiday in Japan, but the program was cancelled as Typhoon No. 25, also known as Typhoon Dujuan, was expected to approach the Kanto region. Ticket holders for Monday will receive refunds, while some of the cancelled stage programs are expected to be streamed online.

Under the theme "The Longest Ever, Five Days Full of Play," the 2026 edition brought together 1,138 companies and organizations from 53 countries and regions. Publishers, developers and technology companies presented their latest games, hardware and related products throughout the show. Tokyo Game Show also maintained a major digital presence with 25 official streaming programs distributed through YouTube, X, Twitch and niconico. Additional broadcasts were provided through DouYu and bilibili for Chinese audiences, while IGN carried coverage aimed at Europe and North America.

Tokyo Game Show will return to Makuhari Messe from September 16 to 20, 2027. Organizers are once again planning a five-day format, after weather conditions prevented the 2026 edition from becoming the first TGS to actually complete five consecutive days. Since its debut as a three-day event in 1996, the exhibition has repeatedly evolved, including a period with spring and autumn editions beginning in 1997, before returning to one annual event in 2002 and adopting its familiar four-day structure in 2007.
