The supernatural comedy manga Shiba Inu Rooms, also known as Shiba-tsuki Bukken, is officially heading to television with an anime adaptation scheduled for summer 2027. Production company Wright Film unveiled the project on November 1, 2026, deliberately choosing a date celebrated in Japan as "Wan Wan Wan Day", a playful reference to the sound of dogs barking. Created by Esu Omori, the series combines everyday school life with supernatural encounters, introducing an unusual relationship between a teenage girl and a ghostly canine companion. A special illustration by the original manga creator was also released to celebrate the announcement.
The upcoming adaptation will be produced at TMS Entertainment, with Osamu Yamasaki taking charge as director. Character designs will be handled by Rio, whose previous credits include trapezium and Sorcerous Stabber Orphen: Chaos in Urbanrama. The first confirmed voice cast members are Niina Nakabayashi, who will portray the protagonist Kori Momose, and Mutsumi Tamura, who will voice Mu, the mysterious Shiba Inu spirit. Additional production details, including the exact premiere date and further cast announcements, have yet to be disclosed.
At the center of the story is Kori, a high school student who discovers that her newly rented apartment comes with an unexpected resident. The property is haunted by Mu, the ghost of a Shiba Inu whose personality clashes with hers. What initially appears to be an ordinary change of residence quickly becomes an unconventional living arrangement filled with disagreements and supernatural surprises. As the two struggle to share the same space, their contrasting personalities raise the possibility of an unlikely friendship.
Originally introduced as a one-shot manga in 2023, Shiba Inu Rooms began regular serialization on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ platform in June 2024. Its growing publication history has also brought the series to international readers through Viz Media, which secured the English digital publishing rights in January 2025 before announcing a physical edition in February 2026. The first English print volume arrived on September 1, 2026, while the manga is also accessible through MANGA Plus. In Japan, Shueisha is preparing to release the ninth collected volume on November 4, 2026, ahead of the anime's planned debut next summer.
