The Code Geass franchise is preparing to enter a new era with the announcement of a completely new anime project titled Code Geass: Aspal of the Star Chasers. The reveal was made during the franchise's 20th anniversary event in Tokyo, where fans were also shown a first teaser visual introducing two previously unseen characters. The artwork features a strong space-inspired setting, suggesting that the upcoming production could explore territory very different from earlier entries in the series.

The new anime will be directed by Kazuya Nomura, while Madoka Nozaki is responsible for series composition. Rolua will handle the character designs, with Yoshi credited for the Agarmatha designs. For now, the production team has not revealed any details regarding the story, the exact setting, or how the new characters will connect to the wider Code Geass universe.

A release window has also yet to be confirmed, meaning fans will have to wait for additional information before learning when the project will make its debut. The announcement nevertheless marks another major expansion for a franchise that has continued to grow through multiple anime productions, manga, novels and other related projects since its original launch.

The original Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion focused on Lelouch Lamperouge, a young strategist who gains the mysterious Geass power from C.C. and uses it as part of his rebellion against the Holy Britannian Empire. Combining political intrigue, personal conflict and large-scale mecha battles, the series became one of Sunrise's most recognizable franchises and went on to inspire numerous sequels and spin-offs.
