Bandai Namco has offered its most substantial look yet at Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve, releasing a 16-minute opening cinematic ahead of the game's launch. The lengthy sequence sets the stage for the next chapter of the aerial combat franchise and introduces players to the conflict that will drive its campaign. Ace Combat 8 is scheduled to launch on October 2, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam, while owners of the Deluxe Edition will receive early access beginning September 29.

Multiplayer will also play an important role in the new installment. Among the confirmed online modes is Co-Op Assault, where two teams of four pilots compete to achieve the highest score while completing objectives. Co-Op Warfare takes a more confrontational approach, pitting two four-player teams against each other while NPC forces remain active across the battlefield. Players who pre-order the game will additionally receive Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War as a bonus.

Bandai Namco is expanding the game's universe beyond the console and PC experience with Ace Combat Hour Zero, a four-part live action prequel produced ahead of the release. The series follows three people trying to survive the beginning of the Republic of Sotoa's invasion of the Federation of Central Usea. Its cast includes Josh Holloway as a pilot, Brandon Routh as a doctor and Tamlyn Tomita as a news anchor. The first three episodes were released during September, with the fourth and final chapter scheduled for September 29.

Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve arrives more than seven years after Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, which originally launched in 2019 before later expanding to additional platforms. The franchise itself has built a long history around cinematic military aviation, fictional geopolitical conflicts and high-speed aerial battles. With an extensive campaign presentation, multiple cooperative and competitive modes, and a live action project expanding its narrative, the new installment is shaping up to be one of the franchise's largest productions to date.
