The world of The Apothecary Diaries is preparing to expand into console gaming for the first time. Nintendo has officially unveiled The Apothecary Diaries: The False Imperial Brother, a new adventure scheduled to launch on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 in early 2027. Announced during the Nintendo Direct broadcast on September 9, 2026, the title places Maomao at the center of an original investigation filled with mysteries, familiar faces and new characters created with the involvement of series author Natsu Hyuga.

Early footage shows Maomao exploring several locations while interacting with characters such as Xiaolan and Jinshi. Rather than simply recreating events from the anime or novels, the game will introduce a completely new storyline based on an original concept from the franchise. Players will investigate unusual incidents, collect evidence and connect clues in order to solve cases. Exploration appears to play a major role, while Maomao's knowledge of medicine and herbs is expected to remain an important part of the gameplay experience.

Although this is the franchise's first official console adaptation, The Apothecary Diaries has already entered the gaming market. In June 2026, G123 released The Apothecary Diaries: Palace Chronicles for web browsers, smartphones and tablets. That simulation game focuses on daily life within the Imperial Court and Pleasure District, combining character interactions, investigations, crafting and a medical office system. The False Imperial Brother seems ready to build on several of these concepts while offering a larger, more immersive adventure designed specifically for Nintendo hardware.

The announcement arrives during a particularly active period for The Apothecary Diaries. The franchise has surpassed 57 million copies in circulation across its manga and light novel editions, while the anime continues to expand worldwide. Season 3 is scheduled to begin in October 2026, and the series' first theatrical film is expected to premiere in Japan in December. A live action adaptation is also in development, confirming that Maomao's universe is continuing its rapid expansion across multiple forms of entertainment.
