The upcoming live action adaptation of Sins of Kujo is building anticipation ahead of its Japanese theatrical debut on January 8, 2027. TOHO has released a brand-new trailer alongside an official promotional poster, offering another glimpse into the crime drama inspired by Shohei Manabe's manga Kujō no Taizai. The footage also introduces the film's main theme song, "Dispel," performed by Japanese alternative rock band hitsujibungaku. The group previously contributed the theme song for the Netflix television adaptation, maintaining its musical connection to the franchise.
The feature film will reunite several familiar faces from the live action series, including Yuuya Yagira as the controversial defense attorney Taiza Kujo and Hokuto Matsumura as Shinji Karasuma. Director Nobuhiro Doi is also returning to oversee the project, working from a screenplay written by Nonji Nemoto. Other members of the original production team and supporting cast are expected to reprise their respective roles, ensuring continuity between the television adaptation and its cinematic follow-up.
At the heart of Sins of Kujo lies a morally complex legal drama exploring the boundaries between justice, criminality, and professional responsibility. The story follows Taiza Kujo, an unconventional lawyer who willingly represents some of society's most notorious individuals, including criminals and former convicts. His questionable methods frequently challenge established ethical standards, particularly in the eyes of Shinji Karasuma, a highly accomplished attorney who begins working alongside him. As the two navigate increasingly troubling cases, Karasuma finds himself questioning whether Kujo's interpretation of justice can truly be justified.
The original manga began serialization in Shogakukan's Weekly Big Comic Spirits magazine in October 2020 and has since surpassed four million copies in circulation. Its 16th collected volume was released on April 2, the same date the Netflix live action series premiered in 2026. Creator Shohei Manabe is also widely recognized for Ushijima the Loan Shark, another crime-focused manga that inspired multiple television seasons, theatrical films, and a spin-off series. With its established cast and creative team returning, the upcoming Sins of Kujo film will bring the franchise back to Japanese audiences on the big screen.
