The manga series Jotei, created by Ryo Kurashina and Kazusaku Wake, is preparing for another live action adaptation. Nagisa Saito has been confirmed as the lead actress, taking on the role of Ayaka Tachibana in a new television drama scheduled to premiere on October 22, 2026. The series will air late at night as part of Yomiuri TV's "Drama DiVE" programming block, bringing the long-running story back to Japanese television with a new cast and visual direction.

Set largely within the exclusive nightlife scene of Ginza, Jotei follows Ayaka as she attempts to rise to the very top of a world dominated by money, influence and ruthless ambition. After enduring humiliation at the hands of powerful people and eventually losing her mother, she decides to use her intelligence, determination and femininity to fight her way through the hierarchy of Japan's nightlife industry. Her ultimate objective is clear: to become the "Jotei", or empress, of that world.

The manga has already received several adaptations over the years. A live action movie starring Maju Ozawa was released in 2001, followed by a television drama led by Rosa Kato in 2007. The franchise later expanded through other productions, including a Korean drama adaptation and stage versions, establishing Jotei as a story that has repeatedly found new audiences across different formats.

Saito said she feels a connection with Ayaka's determination to pursue a goal once she has made a decision, while also acknowledging that the character's strength and way of living offer her plenty to learn from. A teaser visual and trailer have also been released, showing Ayaka's dramatic transformation from an innocent schoolgirl in a sailor uniform into a confident woman dressed in striking red. The footage highlights her ambition through lines such as her promise to make those who wronged her submit and her declaration that she will become the "Jotei".
