A new manga exploring the human side of psychiatric home care made its debut in Japan on September 11, 2026. Titled Seishinka Homon Nurse ni Narimashita, the series is written from an original concept by Isao Inaoka and illustrated by Piroyo Arai. The manga is now available through Futabasha’s Web Action platform, introducing readers to a profession that remains relatively unfamiliar to the wider public.
The story follows Sakurada, a nurse who visits people living with mental health conditions in their own homes. Her role goes far beyond providing medical assistance, as she also helps patients regain confidence, maintain their independence and navigate the challenges of everyday life. Through these encounters, the manga examines the delicate relationship between caregivers and patients while highlighting the emotional realities surrounding psychiatric support.
Sakurada’s decision to pursue nursing is also deeply personal. She continues to carry regrets connected to her late aunt, who had schizophrenia, and those unresolved feelings influence the way she approaches her work. Alongside her supervisor Kashiwaba, Sakurada gradually meets patients with very different circumstances and learns how important patience, empathy and trust can be when supporting people dealing with mental illness. The series aims to combine a character-driven narrative with a grounded look at psychiatric home nursing in contemporary Japan.
