A new manga adaptation has expanded the growing bibliography of Japanese author Mikito Chinen. His horror novel Etsuran Genkin Ryōki Satsujin-han no Seishin Kantei Hōkoku-sho has been adapted by artist Hiromoto Komatsu, with serialization beginning on September 25, 2026 through Futabasha’s Web Comic Action platform. The original novel was released by Futabasha in September 2025, making the manga adaptation a relatively rapid transition to another format.

The psychological horror story centers on Kasumi Uehara, a doctor assigned to conduct the psychiatric evaluation of a serial killer responsible for the deaths of eleven men and women in Tokyo. What initially appears to be a clinical investigation gradually develops into something far more disturbing. As Uehara examines the murderer and reconstructs the circumstances surrounding the crimes, new questions emerge and increasingly unsettling elements hidden behind the case begin to surface.

Chinen has remained particularly active across novels and manga in recent years. In June 2026, he teamed up with artist Kiyo Hasui to launch Prometheus Taisen on Kadokawa’s ComicWalker platform. Another manga connected to his work, Ameku Nakao no Suiri Karute - Sphere no Shitenshi, created with Eri Takenashi and based on the Ameku Takao’s Detective Karte novels, concluded with its third collected volume on July 7, 2026.

The Ameku Takao franchise has also expanded well beyond publishing. Its television anime debuted in January 2025 and was distributed internationally by Crunchyroll as Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective, including an English dub. A live action television adaptation followed in April 2025. The original novel series has meanwhile surpassed three million copies in cumulative circulation, further establishing Chinen as an important name in Japanese medical mystery and suspense fiction.
