The Failure at God School is officially heading to television, with a TV anime adaptation of the fantasy manga now confirmed. The series comes from Natsu Hyuuga, the creator best known for The Apothecary Diaries, with artwork by Modomu Akagawara. The announcement gives fans another reason to keep an eye on Hyuuga's expanding catalogue as one of her manga projects prepares to make the jump to animation.
To accompany the reveal, the production unveiled a first teaser visual offering an early glimpse at the upcoming adaptation. Manga artist Modomu Akagawara also created a special commemorative illustration celebrating the announcement. Further details regarding the animation studio, production staff, voice cast and broadcast schedule have yet to be revealed.
First launched in Hakusensha's Hana to Yume magazine in August 2021, The Failure at God School blends supernatural fantasy with a modern society where miracles and divine abilities are officially regulated. People capable of manifesting supernatural phenomena are classified as Himiko, while only fully certified individuals are legally permitted to carry the prestigious title of God.
The story follows Nagi, an otherwise ordinary high school student whose family shrine has been left without a divine presence following the death of her grandmother. With her reclusive Himiko brother offering little hope of solving the problem, Nagi sets out to find a god herself. Her search eventually pulls her into a much larger supernatural world than she expected, involving divine powers, government systems and one of Japan's most prestigious magic academies. The manga is currently published in English by Yen Press.
