A new promotional video for The Apothecary Diaries Season 3 has been released, giving fans another look at Maomao's upcoming return while also revealing fresh information about the anime's music. The trailer confirms that Japanese singer Eve will perform the new ending theme, titled "AIYOU." The third season is scheduled to begin broadcasting in Japan on October 2 at 11:00 p.m. through NTV's Friday Anime Night block and 29 affiliated channels.

The upcoming season will once again be divided into two cours. The first part will launch in October 2026, while the second is currently planned for April 2027. The production has also confirmed a new addition to the cast, with Reina Ueda joining the series as Bai Niangniang, a mysterious pale nymph who will be introduced during the new storyline. On the musical side, yorushika will perform the opening theme "Kumo o Nukekazashimo e Watashidake."

The franchise is also preparing several major projects beyond the television anime. The theatrical film Kusuriya no Hitorigoto: Bōhi no Hihō, known in English as The Apothecary Diaries: The Deceased Empress' Treasure, is set to open in Japanese cinemas on December 11, 2026. The film will feature an original story written by light novel creator Hyuganatsu. A live action adaptation is also in development and is currently scheduled to premiere worldwide on Amazon Prime Video in 2028.

The Apothecary Diaries began its anime run in October 2023, followed by a second season in January 2025. The story centers on Maomao, a highly observant young apothecary whose knowledge of medicine and poisons draws her into the mysteries and political intrigues of the imperial rear palace. Originally serialized online by Hyuganatsu in 2011, the series later became a published light novel franchise before expanding into manga, anime and several new screen projects.
