Monster Strike Returns With Mera×Death Anime in January 2027

The Monster Strike universe is preparing for a new television project. MIXI has officially announced Mera×Death: Shinigami to Boku no Ijō na Koi, also known as Mera×Death: The Unusual Love Between Me and the Grim Reaper, a brand-new anime scheduled to premiere in Japan on January 5, 2027. The series will be broadcast on TOKYO MX and ten additional television networks, while streaming platforms will also carry the show. The announcement arrived alongside a promotional video and a new key visual, offering a first look at this unusual addition to the long-running franchise.

Production is being handled by Qzil.la and studio keel, with Kenta Kushitani directing the series. Kushitani previously contributed to productions such as Shangri-La Frontier, Kaiju No. 8 and Birdie Wing: Golf Girls' Story. Daisuke Ōhigashi is responsible for series composition and scripts, while Tadashi Sakazaki is designing the characters. The soundtrack will be composed by Masaru Yokoyama, Kana Hashiguchi and Natsuki Hamada. The wider production team also includes Norifumi Nakamura as art director, Asuka Fukada as CG director, Takuma Morooka as compositing director of photography and Fumihiko Ōtera as sound director.

Mera×Death continues MIXI's efforts to expand Monster Strike far beyond its mobile game origins. The franchise's previous TV project, Monster Strike: Deadverse Reloaded, premiered in October 2025 and consisted of ten episodes. It marked an important step for the property as the first Monster Strike anime series created specifically for conventional television broadcasting. Amazon Prime Video later added all ten episodes with English subtitles in January, making the series accessible to a wider international audience.

Monster Strike itself began as a mobile RPG released in Japan for iOS and Android in 2013 before expanding into numerous anime productions, films and spin-offs. Over the years, the franchise has explored characters such as Arthur, Lucifer, Solomon and Noah through dedicated stories, while also experimenting with unusual formats such as the interactive Hareruya: Unmei no Sentaku anime. With Mera×Death arriving in early 2027, MIXI is now opening another chapter for one of its most enduring multimedia properties.
