Daemons of the Shadow Realm is officially coming back for a second season. The announcement was made shortly after the broadcast of the first season’s final episode, confirming that Hiromu Arakawa’s supernatural manga adaptation will continue its journey on television. A new promotional visual was also released to mark the reveal, although the production team has yet to announce a premiere window for the upcoming season.
Known in Japan as Yomi no Tsugai, the story follows Yuru, a young boy living a seemingly peaceful life in an isolated mountain village alongside his twin sister Asa. Behind the village’s quiet appearance lies a far more disturbing reality. Asa is kept imprisoned while carrying out a mysterious duty, and Yuru gradually discovers that his home, his family and the strange supernatural entities surrounding them are connected to secrets much larger than he ever imagined.
The anime features Kenshō Ono as Yuru and Yume Miyamoto as Asa, joined by a substantial voice cast including Yūichi Nakamura, Misaki Kuno, Takako Honda, Rikiya Koyama, Junichi Suwabe, Akira Ishida, Shinichirō Miki and Kappei Yamaguchi. The adaptation is directed by Masahiro Andō at Bones Film, with Noboru Takagi supervising the scripts, Nobuhiro Arai handling character designs and chief animation direction, and Kenichiro Suehiro composing the soundtrack.
The first season premiered in Japan on April 4 and was broadcast across two consecutive cours. Crunchyroll handled international streaming and also offered an English dub on the same day as the Japanese release. Arakawa, best known as the creator of Fullmetal Alchemist and Silver Spoon, launched the original manga in Square Enix’s Monthly Shonen Gangan in December 2021. With Season 2 now officially confirmed, further information concerning its release date, returning cast and production schedule is expected at a later stage.
