Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles originates from the light novel series written by Yuri Kitayama and illustrated by Riv. The story began online in February 2014 before Hobby Japan started publishing the printed novels in 2015. It follows Rio, an orphan living in the slums who discovers that he carries the memories of Haruto Amakawa, a Japanese university student from another life. Alongside this revelation, Rio develops powerful magical abilities that dramatically change the course of his existence. A manga adaptation by Futago Minaduki was later launched in 2017, with both the novels and manga licensed in English by J-Novel Club.
