Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for the new animated series inspired by the Devil May Cry franchise from CAPCOM. Several actors have been announced for the English version, including Scout Taylor-Compton (Mary), Hoon Lee (White Rabbit), and Chris Coppola (Enzo). A posthumous tribute will be paid to Kevin Conroy, who will voice VP Baines. Animation is being handled by Studio Mir, with a script written by Adi Shankar and Alex Larsen. Johnny Yong Bosch will voice Dante. The series will consist of eight episodes and will feature the famous characters Dante, Vergil, and Lady, accompanied by a soundtrack featuring Limp Bizkit and their song "Rollin'."
Set for release on April 3, the series is part of a broader project that Shankar calls a "bootleg multiverse," alongside the Castlevania series. This is not the first animated adaptation of Devil May Cry, which already had a version in 2007, produced by Madhouse and distributed by ADV Films, and later Funimation. The anime has been available to stream on Crunchyroll since 2017. The game's universe has also been adapted into novels, manga, and stage plays, including a live performance titled Devil May Cry: The Live Hacker, staged in Tokyo in 2019.
Launched in 2019 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, Devil May Cry 5 subsequently received a special edition on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in 2020. With such longevity and a universe rich in content, the Devil May Cry saga continues to expand its influence in the entertainment world. The arrival of this new series on Netflix is expected to appeal to fans of the game while attracting a new audience eager for high-quality action and animation.
