Netflix and Sega are taking their collaboration to a new level with three projects inspired by some of the Japanese publisher’s major franchises. The partnership includes a live action Crazy Taxi movie, a new animated Sonic the Hedgehog series aimed at younger audiences, and a live action adaptation of Stranger Than Heaven, the upcoming crime game developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio.

Crazy Taxi will make the jump to cinema as a live action comedy written by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, whose previous credits include Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers and The Naked Gun. Neal H. Moritz and Toby Ascher, already closely associated with the successful Sonic the Hedgehog movie franchise, will produce alongside Sega executive Toru Nakahara. The announcement arrives as Sega prepares to revive the game series with Crazy Taxi: World Tour, scheduled for release in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.

Sonic is also set to strengthen his presence on Netflix with an entirely new animated production designed primarily for upper preschool audiences. Carlos Stevens, known for his work on Love, Death + Robots, will produce the project together with Nakahara. Netflix previously hosted Sonic Prime, which debuted in December 2022 before concluding its third season in January 2024.

The third project will bring Stranger Than Heaven into live action territory. Toru Nakahara will produce the crime film based on Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s new title, previously known as Project Century. The game is currently scheduled to launch on January 15 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam. Together, these productions underline Sega’s growing ambitions to transform its gaming franchises into multimedia properties capable of reaching audiences far beyond traditional video games.
