Comici Inc., a Japanese data science company serving manga publishers, has launched comici MANGA, a digital reading platform deployed in 12 countries: the United States, Canada, France, Spain, Germany, the Philippines, Thailand, India, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and Indonesia. The ambition is clear: to centralize access to several Japanese manga brands within a single service, available through an app and the website. A practical feature: a single account allows users to switch between platforms, with reading history and purchase synchronization for a seamless experience on both mobile devices and browsers.
For its launch, comici MANGA brings together catalogs from five labels: Comic Growl, Kimicomi, COMIC Ruelle & COMIC Jardin, Manga-SPA!, and Ohzora Shuppan. The platform features established titles such as The Ancient Magus’ Bride, as well as new releases in English, including Magical Girl Inaba. In terms of its business model, the platform relies on several options: premium subscriptions, free chapters and rental options, a now-standard trio intended to accommodate the highly varied reading habits found across different regions.

What comici MANGA is trying to do differently is its editorial philosophy. Comici points to a trend among digital platforms of prioritizing “viral” content and short-term metrics, potentially harming discovery and engagement. Its response is to recreate an experience similar to that of Japanese magazines, encouraging exploration through “batches” of series and by genre. The platform highlights internationally popular categories, from fantasy to BL, as well as villainess and romcom, with the aim of recapturing the thrill of a “new chapter” and following serialized releases, as in magazine culture.
The initial figures nevertheless show rapid traction: since its launch in January, comici MANGA has reportedly surpassed 110,000 downloads, following a trajectory that positions it as a bridge between Japanese publishers and a global audience. Technically, the service is built on “comimaga” (a multi-publisher platform) and comici+, a BPaaS/BPO offering dedicated to magazine management (work updates, data analysis, advertising and shop operations). In Japan, platforms built on comici+ claim more than 3 million registered users, while the company’s local web ecosystem totals approximately 8 million visitors and 130 million monthly page views. The message remains unchanged: “Bringing manga to the world!!”, with an IP strategy designed to reach beyond national borders through online publishing and the development of derivative products.
