Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have announced that Pokémon Pokopia has surpassed 5 million copies sold worldwide, approximately four months after its release. Launched on March 5 for Nintendo Switch 2, the game developed by Koei Tecmo has quickly established itself as one of the franchise’s major new offerings. Pokémon Pokopia adopts a life simulation and building-focused formula, with a more relaxed approach than the traditional combat-centered entries.

The title is also continuing to expand its content with a paid Expansion Pass, the first part of which has been available since August 5. It introduces Bubbly Basin, a new underwater town, along with a series of additional content. Purchasing the DLC also grants a special Dynamic Ditto recipe and Rare Pokémetal. A second part, scheduled for late 2026, will add new accessories, while a third expansion introducing another town is planned for 2027.

At the same time, a free update released alongside this first expansion adds a new diving mechanic that allows players to explore and build underwater in existing towns. Several Pokémon are also joining the game, including Manaphy, Popplio, Mudkip, Chinchou, Lanturn, Buizel, Corphish, Totodile, Dhelmise, Golisopod, Corsola, Frillish, Lumineon and Sharpedo. Pokémon Pokopia is also introducing several new variants of familiar creatures, such as Professor Tangrowth, Peakychu, Mosslax and Smearguru.

The success of Pokémon Pokopia comes as the franchise continues to expand across multiple platforms. Pokémon Champions has been available on Nintendo Switch since April 8, and on iOS and Android since June 17. Meanwhile, the upcoming Pokémon Winds/Waves games are expected to launch worldwide on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027.
