Red Riding Hood: A Detective Story is officially heading to television in January 2027. The upcoming anime adaptation has received its first key visual and promotional trailer, while several additional voice actors have also joined the cast. Crunchyroll has confirmed that it will stream the series worldwide outside Asia, giving international audiences access to this unusual mystery-driven interpretation of classic fairy-tale characters.

Yume Miyamoto will voice Red Riding Hood, with Akira Sekine appearing as Pinocchio. The newly announced cast includes Takuya Sato as Jill, Atsushi Tamaru as Antonio, Motoko Kumai as Rodrigo, Kotaro Nishiyama as Paolo and Sakiko Uran as Thumbelina. Ryoko Shiraishi will serve as the narrator. Itsuro Kawasaki is directing the anime and handling the scripts, while Manami Minakata and Yuko Yahiro are responsible for character design. BENTEN Film is overseeing animation production.

The story follows Red Riding Hood as she sets out on a journey for a mysterious purpose, only to repeatedly find herself caught up in strange incidents and criminal cases. Rather than simply escaping danger, she relies on her sharp observation skills, curiosity and intelligence to investigate each mystery. The concept mixes familiar fairy-tale imagery with detective fiction, transforming well-known characters and settings into the foundation for a series of investigations.

The franchise originated as a novel series written by Aito Aoyagi, first published by Futabasha in August 2020. Four volumes are currently available in Japan. A manga adaptation illustrated by Kanoka Tana ran from January 2023 until May 2025 and was also collected into four volumes. The property previously received a live action adaptation with the 2023 Netflix film Once Upon a Crime, making the 2027 anime another major expansion of the series into a different medium.
