Netflix has finally unveiled the first teaser for The One Piece, the new anime remake of the beloved saga created by Eiichiro Oda. Developed by WIT Studio, this new adaptation revisits the beginnings of Luffy’s adventure and that of his future crew, the Straw Hats. The approximately one-minute trailer looks back at some of the story’s foundational moments, including Gol D. Roger’s famous final speech, which marked the beginning of the great age of piracy.

Scheduled for February 2027, The One Piece will consist of seven episodes of approximately 42 minutes each. This first season will adapt the manga’s first 50 chapters, covering part of the Baratie arc, which is well known among fans as it notably introduces Sanji. This more streamlined format should allow for smoother storytelling and more modern direction, while respecting the original material’s major story beats.

The announcement has generated considerable interest, even though One Piece already has an extremely popular anime produced by Toei Animation, with more than 1,100 episodes to its name. Many fans are eagerly anticipating this new version, as the long-running adaptation was often constrained by an extremely demanding weekly schedule. This sometimes resulted in filler episodes, non-canon detours and animation that was less spectacular than what audiences now expect from major battle anime.

The project also has a major asset: WIT Studio, known for its work on Attack on Titan, Ranking of Kings, Spy x Family and Vinland Saga. The series will be directed by Masashi Koizuka, with Taku Kishimoto handling series composition. Netflix is thus confirming its massive investment in One Piece, following the success of its live-action adaptation, whose third season is also expected in 2027. As the manga has entered its final phase, this new production could offer viewers an ideal gateway into Luffy’s world.
