Square Enix is categorical about Kingdom Hearts IV’s release schedule: the franchise’s next major installment will indeed be released in 2027. During a panel held after its presentation at D23 2026, Tai Yasue, the game’s co-director, and Tetsuya Nomura, the series’ creator and also a co-director, both confirmed that development was progressing well enough to guarantee this release window.
Tai Yasue notably thanked players for their patience while assuring them that the team could now firmly commit to a 2027 release. The executive stated that development was proceeding without any particular difficulties and stressed that this was not an 80 or 90 percent estimate. Square Enix now considers the target completely secure, with Yasue going so far as to promise that Kingdom Hearts IV will be available sometime next year.
Tetsuya Nomura, for his part, wanted to respond directly to concerns that emerged online after the announcement of a release planned for the end of 2027. Some players were already anticipating a possible delay, a possibility that the creator of Kingdom Hearts clearly rules out. He stated that the schedule would not be pushed back and explained that the game’s promotional campaign was only just beginning, suggesting that more information should be shared gradually over the coming months.
Kingdom Hearts IV is therefore expected by the end of 2027 on PC via Steam, the Microsoft Store and the Epic Games Store, as well as on Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5. After several years of waiting for the project, Square Enix now appears to be entering a much more active phase of communication ahead of its launch.
