During the Pokémon Presents streamed this Friday for Pokémon Day, The Pokémon Company officially announced the arrival of Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves, the latest mainline entries in the franchise. Both games will be released worldwide in 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2. The trailer offered a first look at the playable trainers, numerous creatures, and the three starter Pokémon: Browt (Grass type), Pombon (Fire type), and Gecqua (Water type).
These versions mark a major turning point, as they represent the series’ 10th generation. Development has once again been entrusted to GAME FREAK, remaining at the helm to lead the franchise into its new era. An even more unexpected detail: the video also highlights two Pikachu in costumes, named Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu, a visual wink that already seems designed to become a marketing signature and a future merchandise favorite.
This Pokémon Day had a particularly special feel: it celebrated Pokémon’s 30th anniversary. To put the recent timeline into perspective, Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet were released on Switch in November 2022. Meanwhile, Pokémon Legends Z-A launched on October 16 on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, further consolidating Nintendo’s multiplatform strategy ahead of the highly anticipated arrival of this new Winds/Waves duo.
