The latest rumors are stirring up the gaming world: PlayStation is reportedly considering releasing a new revision of the PS Portal in 2026. Although Sony does not occupy the same position as Nintendo in the handheld console space, the brand has a genuine handheld legacy dating back to the mid-2000s. After two notable machines and the commercial failure of the PS Vita, Sony moved away from the segment around 2019… before returning in 2023 with the PS Portal.

The PS Portal does not belong to the same category as a standalone console such as the Switch or Steam Deck: it is an extension designed for remote gaming through the Remote Play architecture. And it works: since its launch in November 2023, the accessory has reportedly been a major success, to the point of being presented as the best-selling PlayStation accessory of 2024. Now, insider KeplerL2 claims that a model with an OLED screen is in preparation, offering a visual upgrade over the LCD, with no other details confirmed and no precise date beyond a window sometime in 2026.

This evolution would arrive after major improvements in late 2025: the addition of cloud streaming for PS Plus Premium subscribers, a revamped interface, 3D audio support and new accessibility options. By January 2026, around 7% of PS5 owners reportedly already had a PS Portal. And this is not the only leak: another handheld device linked to the future PS6 is also being discussed, possibly more powerful than recent competitors and even “dockable.” With the PS6 not expected to launch before 2027 at the earliest—and delays attributed, among other things, to RAM shortages—an OLED PS Portal could serve as an extremely tempting “waiting mode.”
