Rockstar Games has lifted the veil a little further on Grand Theft Auto VI with an exceptional 26-minute gameplay presentation, initially broadcast on Netflix before being made available to the public on YouTube. Captured on PlayStation 5, this new footage provides the most complete look at the game since its announcement and, above all, conveys the scale of the work carried out by the studio. Extremely detailed textures, character modeling, animations, urban environments and lighting: technically, GTA 6 is already displaying considerable ambition. The sequence notably follows Jason and Lucia during an apparently simple mission to retrieve a package from a dealer named Raymond, before the brutal intervention of law enforcement quickly turns the operation into a shootout.
The demonstration also provides a better understanding of the gameplay structure and the complementary nature of the two protagonists. Jason and Lucia can be controlled alternately, with character switches taking place directly during certain sequences. Rockstar also showcases several police chases, armed confrontations, travel through Vice City and different areas of the fictional state of Leonida. Players will notably be able to set certain wanted vehicles on fire in order to destroy evidence. The combat appears to have been reworked since GTA 5, with more precise damage localization and a cover system presented as being more fluid. Exploration will also play a major role in this new adventure, with a map that appears to be particularly vast and dense.
Rockstar used this presentation to show several side activities available in the open world. Car and motorcycle racing, kayaking, swimming, fishing, skydiving, heists, nights out at nightclubs and visits to strip clubs will all be among the many distractions on offer. Some activities also appear to play with contemporary social media conventions, including sequences involving influencers making live videos. Beyond these mechanics, the studio places greater emphasis on the relationship between Jason and Lucia. Several scenes of everyday life show the couple in their apartment or simply walking hand in hand, bringing a more intimate dimension that has rarely been highlighted in this way in previous installments of the series.
The return to Vice City is ultimately one of the main selling points of this new presentation. The city retains its neon lights, clubs, Latin influences and iconic visual identity, while benefiting from a spectacular modernization. The soundtrack also accompanies several sequences, notably featuring tracks by Phil Collins. These 26 minutes therefore reinforce the impression that Rockstar is preparing one of the most ambitious open worlds of this generation. Grand Theft Auto VI is currently expected on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has also confirmed that the editions sold in stores will not contain a disc, but only a code allowing the game to be downloaded in digital form.
