Square Enix, in collaboration with Artdink, has unveiled a new trailer focused on the story of the highly anticipated Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake. This re-release brings together the first two entries in the celebrated Erdrick trilogy, completely reimagined with a modern visual style combining pixelated nostalgia and artistic depth. The project aims to bring the legendary origins of the saga back to life while offering a renewed visual and narrative experience.
The first chapter tells how, after the legendary Erdrick’s victory over the Lord of Darkness, the kingdom of Alefgard finds peace… before it is threatened once again by the Dragonlord and his creatures. The player, a direct descendant of the hero, must take up their ancestor’s sword to save a world once again plunged into chaos. The story retains its epic scope while benefiting from enhanced storytelling and spectacular direction.
In the second episode, several generations later, Erdrick’s heirs have founded three prosperous kingdoms. But a new threat emerges: darkness once again engulfs the land, forcing the young princes and princesses of this lineage to unite. Together, they must confront the reborn evil and preserve their ancestor’s heroic legacy. This live-action remake thus promises a memorable return to the roots of the Japanese RPG, combining respect for the past with visual modernity.
Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake will be released on October 30 for Windows PC (via Steam and the Microsoft Store), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, as well as PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
