Arc System Works has announced that its popular fighting game, Guilty Gear Strive, will be adapted into an animated television series titled "Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers." The announcement was made on Friday, revealing that SANZIGEN, a studio known for its work on series such as BanG Dream! and D4DJ First Mix, will animate the project. Fans can expect more details about the anime during the Anime Expo panel on July 5.
Shigeru Morikawa, also known by his alias Yuu Kou, has been confirmed as the series director. Morikawa is known for directing Gekijōban Argonavis: Ryūsei no Obligato and for his contributions as a storyboard artist on SANZIGEN's D4DJ series and D_Cide Traumerei the Animation. The series' scripts will be handled by Norimitsu Kaihō, known for his work on School-Live!, Astra Lost in Space, and Akudama Drive. Additionally, Seiji Mizushima is credited as an associate producer for the anime.
The Guilty Gear series, which began with its release on PlayStation in May 1998, has built a dedicated fan base through its fast-paced gameplay, complex mechanics, and distinctive anime-inspired visual style. Guilty Gear Strive, the latest installment in the series, was released in June 2021 and has continued to expand with new DLC characters, with the latest "Season 3" launching in August 2023. SANZIGEN had previously created an animated video celebrating Guilty Gear Strive's first anniversary in August 2022, further strengthening the connection between the game and the upcoming animated series.
