The official website for Yaiba: Samurai Legend recently unveiled a new trailer and a brand-new illustration announcing the second part of the series, an adaptation of Gōshō Aoyama’s cult manga. This sequel will begin on Saturday and introduce a new character, Nadeshiko Yamato, voiced by Sayaka Senbongi. For the occasion, two new theme songs will accompany the upcoming episodes: "Blade Kizuna ver," performed by Blue Encount for the opening, and "Action!" sung by Kairi Yagi Denon Yuugi for the ending. The anime, initially broadcast in Japan on YTV and NTV in April, is also available internationally on Netflix and Hulu. Each week, it airs before an episode of Detective Conan in the time slot dedicated to Gōshō Aoyama.
The story follows Yaiba Kurogane, a boy raised in the jungle to become a samurai. His unexpected return to Japan leads him to live with the Mine family, who are connected to his father, Kenjurō. Sayaka Mine, the daughter of the family, is quickly overwhelmed by Yaiba’s wild and impulsive behavior. While accompanying him to school, he crosses paths with Takeshi Onimaru, a kendo expert. Their rivalry awakens two legendary swords with supernatural powers: the Fujinken, the blade of the wind god, and the Raijinken, the sword of the thunder god. These ancient weapons will transform the destinies of the two young warriors and reveal a buried past.
The production brings together a prestigious team. Studio Wit is animating the series under the direction of Takahiro Hasui. Character designs are being handled by Yoshimichi Kameda, who also serves as animation supervisor. Tōko Machida is writing the scripts, while the music is composed by Yutaka Yamada and Yoshiaki Dewa. This ambitious project adapts a manga published between 1988 and 1993 in Weekly Shonen Sunday, which had already received a 52-episode anime series in the 1990s. Viz Media plans to republish the manga in English starting July 8.
