TOHO is stepping up its campaign for Godzilla Minus Zero, unveiling a new trailer presented in the expansive 1.43:1 IMAX format. Takashi Yamazaki returns behind the camera following the international success of Godzilla Minus One, with the story now moving forward to 1949, two years after the events of its predecessor. Japanese audiences will get the first opportunity to see the film on November 3, 2026, coinciding with the franchise's traditional Godzilla Day celebration, before its North American debut on November 6.

The production is also breaking new ground for Japanese cinema. Godzilla Minus Zero has become the first Japanese movie to qualify for the official « Filmed for IMAX » designation, highlighting how closely its visual presentation has been designed around large-format theaters. TOHO is pairing that technical ambition with an unusually broad international rollout. Europe, Latin America, Asia, the Middle East, Australia and New Zealand are all expected to receive the movie during the same week, with further territories scheduled to be announced later.

Much of the previous film's cast is returning, including Ryūnosuke Kamiki, Minami Hamabe, Hidetaka Yoshioka, Yūki Yamada, Kuranosuke Sasaki, Sakura Andō and Miō Tanaka. Newcomer Min Tanaka, whose credits include 47 Ronin and the live action Rurouni Kenshin movies, will portray biologist Kanji Murakami. Yamazaki is once again overseeing the project on several fronts as director, writer and VFX supervisor. Composer Naoki Satō is returning as well, with ROBOT handling production and Shirogumi Inc. responsible for the visual effects.

Expectations are understandably high. Godzilla Minus One generated more than $116 million worldwide and made franchise history by winning Best Visual Effects at the 2024 Academy Awards, becoming the first Japanese production ever to claim the prize. The movie and its monochrome edition, Godzilla Minus One/Minus Color, have since expanded their audience through streaming and digital platforms. With its IMAX-focused production, returning creative team and near-simultaneous worldwide launch, Godzilla Minus Zero is shaping up to be one of TOHO's most ambitious Godzilla releases yet.
