Gamescom 2026 officially opened its doors with a particularly packed ceremony featuring announcements, trailers and gameplay footage. Still orchestrated by Geoff Keighley, this new edition alternated between highly anticipated titles and more unexpected reveals. Among the evening’s first surprises, Nodusfall, HoYoverse’s new production, drew attention with a premise noticeably different from the studio’s previous games. Ubisoft also created a surprise by unveiling a new Rainbow Six game that partially abandons the franchise’s traditional formula in favor of a tactical game reminiscent of XCOM.
Several already-known productions then took advantage of the event to show new footage. Silent Hill Townfall made a relatively discreet appearance, while Tides of Annihilation highlighted its particularly fast-paced combat system. Control Resonant once again stood out with ambitious art direction, while Rayman Legends Retold presented several sequences focused on its musical levels. Meanwhile, 1001 Threads of Mizan and Lofsöng offered two more distinctive propositions, relying in particular on highly striking visual worlds.
The ceremony also featured Exterminauts, whose cooperative formula strongly evokes that of Helldivers 2. Path of Exile 2 used the show to finally announce its release date, while Aliens Fireteam 2 returned to the spotlight with a new presentation. Hitman, for its part, announced a new special event featuring a major guest personality, continuing the event-content strategy developed around the game.
Gamescom 2026 ultimately saved two of its most important announcements for the end of the evening. Final Fantasy 7 Revelation was unveiled through a new trailer packed with previously unseen footage, heightening expectations for the next installment in the project. The Witcher 3 also occupied a prominent place with two announcements: a major free update including, among other things, a visual overhaul of the game, as well as a preview of Song of the Past. This new DLC is intended to establish a narrative link with The Witcher 4 and once again extend one of CD Projekt RED’s most iconic RPGs.
