Nintendo used a Nintendo Direct broadcast on Wednesday to announce a new entry in the series, simply titled "Star Fox". It is a remake of Star Fox 64, coming to Switch 2 on June 25, with a complete visual overhaul, a new art style, a multiplayer option and several gameplay additions.

The title retains the level structure and general mechanics of the Nintendo 64 game released in 1997, while modernizing its presentation. Campaign Mode now features cinematic briefings, fully voiced dialogue and an orchestral soundtrack. The campaign will offer three difficulty levels to adapt the experience for newcomers and seasoned pilots alike.

In addition, a Challenge Mode will allow players to replay completed levels with additional objectives, across two difficulties. Campaign and Challenge will be compatible with Joy-Con 2 Mouse Controls, and will offer a co-op mode in which two players share piloting and shooting duties, locally on the same console or via GameShare and GameChat.

Finally, Battle Mode will feature 4-vs-4 battles divided into three game types, with online matchmaking, customizable private lobbies and remote play via GameShare/GameChat. For reference, Star Fox 64 has already received two remakes (Star Fox 64 3D in 2011, Star Fox Zero in 2016) and a digital release on Switch through Nintendo Classics in 2021. Fox McCloud also appeared in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, released on April 1.
