Sony has officially announced a global price increase for the PlayStation 5 family, citing persistent economic pressures and rising production costs. The announcement, published this Friday, confirms that the new prices will apply to both the consoles and certain accessories, with the changes taking effect on April 2, 2026.
In the United States, the “standard” PS5 will rise to $649.99, an increase of $100. The PS5 Digital Edition follows the same trajectory at $599.99 (+$100). Meanwhile, the PS5 Pro is seeing the largest increase, rising to $899.99 (+$150). The PlayStation Portal is now listed at $249.99, following a $50 increase.
In its statement, Sony acknowledges the direct impact on the community while presenting the decision as a necessary step to continue offering “innovative” and “high-quality” gaming experiences. The company points to a strained global economic climate that continues to weigh on the manufacturing chain.
Against this backdrop, Sony also highlights the rising cost of key components, particularly memory, whose price is reportedly being driven up by demand from AI-focused data centers and limited supply. The manufacturer also confirms similar increases in the United Kingdom, Europe and Japan, a decision that already marks the second increase in less than a year internationally.
