Sony is bringing Bluepoint Games’ journey to an end. The PlayStation-affiliated studio was renowned for its high-end productions. According to a company spokesperson, the closure follows a “recent review of operations.” Around 70 employees are expected to be affected by layoffs, and the studio is expected to officially cease operations as early as next month. PlayStation praised the team’s technical expertise, highlighting the memorable experiences it had delivered to the community.

Founded in 2006 and based in Austin, Bluepoint had established itself as a benchmark in the remake, modernizing iconic titles for current platforms. The studio notably worked on projects such as Uncharted and Shadow of the Colossus, before producing the highly acclaimed Demon’s Souls for PlayStation 5, further strengthening its reputation as an expert in premium remakes.

Sony officially acquired Bluepoint in 2021, shortly after that success, and subsequently tasked it with co-producing God of War Ragnarök (2022). After that project, the studio was working on a God of War project geared toward a “live-service” model, which was ultimately canceled in January 2025. At the time, PlayStation was still saying that it was seeking the direction of its next project with Bluepoint... A transition that ultimately never came to fruition.
