Battlefield Studios has confirmed the delay of Season 2 for Battlefield 6 and Battlefield REDSEC, while extending Season 1 to avoid a content drought. The new launch date is set for February 17 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. In the meantime, a patch scheduled for January 20 will expand Season 1 with new additions designed to keep the community active over the coming weeks.
Launched in October with a very strong start, Battlefield 6 quickly sought to capitalize on its momentum with a major Season 1 update: its first Battle Pass, a new map, new weapons, and, most notably, the surprise arrival of a free-to-play Battle Royale mode, Battlefield REDSEC (despite numerous leaks). But its momentum has faded: between the rise of ARC Raiders and players’ disappointment with the post-launch support, the game has reportedly lost a large portion of its active Steam player base. The studio nevertheless says that the delay is intended to refine Season 2 and adjust the content based on player feedback.
Concretely, the “extension” update on January 20 will add weekly challenges, a Bonus Path, and the continuation of the Season 1 Battle Pass. The Frostfire Bonus Path, available from January 27, will allow players to unlock free and premium rewards (cosmetics, a weapon pack, a soldier skin, and XP boosts) through challenge-based progression, without dedicated Bonus Challenges. The studio is also teasing Valentine’s Day celebrations, daily login rewards, and several Double XP weekends, along with improvements whose details will be revealed later. Finally, Battlefield Labs will continue to serve as a testing ground, with more information coming in February and a 2026 roadmap to be announced soon, without changing the core of the live project or turning the approach into a simple remake.
