Indie studio Benkimchi has just unveiled DREADNOUGHT: TARTARUS, a “semi-automated” strategy/simulation game with a distinctly anime-inspired aesthetic, announced on January 4, 2026. There is no squad to manage here: you take command of a single titanic warship designed as a mobile fortress. The game is planned for PC (Windows) via Steam, with a release announced for later in 2026. And interest is already strong: the game has reportedly surpassed 10,000 wish-list additions in less than two days.
In terms of its concept, TARTARUS advances relentlessly through immense combat zones, razing everything in its path. You will have to take it into the heart of active theaters of war and confront occupied or out-of-control urban defense systems, human military forces, gigantic monsters, abnormal lifeforms, and even invasion units from extraterrestrial civilizations. The setting establishes the backdrop: FC 2057, an unknown super-battleship emerges in Earth’s orbit, as large as a moving city and capable of erasing a metropolis… and the conflict begins before humanity understands what is happening.
One of the game’s major selling points is its modular customization: TARTARUS is not a fixed machine, but an evolving arsenal whose hull, modules, primary guns, missiles, and superweapons can be reconfigured, along with its onboard fighters and support units. Every choice influences your combat style, rate of progression, and the pressure exerted on the battlefield. Finally, the war unfolds as a continuous campaign on a strategic map: before entering an area, you plan your route and objectives, select priority targets, attempt risky but lucrative routes, and adapt your settings to the enemies and terrain. In short, your decisions write the course of the war.
