For one week, Meknes is set to once again become Morocco’s animation hub. From May 15 to 20, 2026, the city will host the 24th edition of the Meknes International Animation Film Festival (FICAM), an event that brings together fans, studios and industry professionals. Held under the High Patronage of His Majesty Mohammed VI, this edition is organized by the Aïcha Foundation in partnership with the Institut français du Maroc.

Under the theme “Youth Makes Its Animated Films,” FICAM 2026 is clearly turning its focus toward the new generation of creators. Screenings, workshops, master classes and the Animation Film Careers Forum will make up a program designed as a full-scale training ground: a place to learn, network and, above all, contribute to shaping an industry that is rapidly gaining momentum. The student program is also being strengthened, with a dedicated app to better connect education, practical experience and opportunities.

This edition will also feature a major tribute to Fayez Al-Sabbagh, founder and chairman of the “SpaceToon” channel, who is being recognized for his significant role in distributing educational and creative content for young audiences. Another prestigious guest will be Michel Ocelot, an essential figure in animation, who is expected to present an original work in virtual reality—proof that the festival is not content simply to celebrate the medium’s heritage, but is also exploring its technological frontiers.

Balancing retrospection with a vision of the future, FICAM will celebrate the tenth anniversary of its French-language residency and the 20th anniversary of the Aïcha Grand Prize for Animation, two milestones that have supported the emergence of new talent. Remaining true to its mission of making culture accessible, the event will extend beyond Meknes through the Institut français network, with open-air screenings, screenings in the medina, meetings and interactive activities. With the support of major institutional partners, the 2026 edition is shaping up to be a major event where knowledge-sharing, innovation and passion come together.
