Qalam Kalam Publishing is launching with a strong ambition: to contribute to the expansion of the ninth art in Morocco and the Arab world. Its goal is to give genuine visibility to young Moroccan, African and Arab creators by regularly publishing manga and comics, first in Darija and then in other languages. Its identity is founded on a simple yet powerful belief: “Qalam Kalam”—from pencil to speech. Through this project, the publishing house aims to offer artists a space where they can fully develop their worlds and thrive.

The editorial line of Qalam Kalam Publishing highlights a diversity of worlds and artistic styles. Its first flagship project is a prepublication magazine aimed at teenagers and young adults, inspired by iconic models such as Shonen Jump and Spirou. The first issue will feature several different stories, while subsequent publications will continue these ongoing narratives, occasionally introducing new creations. This format is intended to build reader loyalty around captivating series while still leaving room for discovery.

Qalam Kalam Publishing also hopes to reach Moroccan audiences more directly by bringing its publications to bookshops, newsstands and various points of sale throughout the country. Beyond distribution, it aims to support artists throughout their careers by giving them the opportunity to take part in festivals and events dedicated to manga and comics. This approach seeks to create a genuine ecosystem around comics and manga in Morocco while extending the reach of these creations to as many people as possible.

Behind this initiative is Sabrina Timsit, a young French-Moroccan artist trained at the Institute of Fine Arts in Tétouan and the University of Amiens. Passionate about comics since adolescence, she is now turning her dream of popularizing this artistic genre in Morocco into reality. Qalam Kalam Publishing is also launching an open call for projects until September 25, 2025, intended for creators aged 17 and over, whether professionally trained in visual arts or talented autodidacts. The call is open to both series and one-shots, in manga and comics, and is aimed at Moroccan, African and Arab authors wishing to share their creativity.

More information about this call for submissions can be found via the official Instagram page of Qalam Kalam Publishing.
