The second season of the anime Black Clover continues to reveal its first details ahead of its highly anticipated return to Japanese television. During Anime Expo, the production team presented a new promotional video that notably offers a preview of “Kienai Riyū”, the new opening theme performed by the Japanese band WANIMA. The sequence, first screened during the event before being shared more widely, offers another glimpse of the atmosphere of this sequel, which fans of Yūki Tabata’s work are eagerly awaiting. Season 2 is scheduled to air on TV Tokyo in October 2026, while Crunchyroll will stream it.
For this new season, the studio Pierrot will once again be responsible for the animation. Directing duties have been entrusted to Ayataka Tanemura, a name already particularly familiar to fans of the franchise. The director previously helmed episodes 153 to 170 of the first anime series, as well as the feature film Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King. His involvement therefore ensures a certain creative continuity with the license’s previous productions. Tanemura was also present at Anime Expo alongside Gakuto Kajiwara, the Japanese voice actor who plays protagonist Asta, to present this new stage in the anime adaptation.
Black Clover’s return comes more than five years after the broadcast of its 170th episode, which marked the end of the television series in March 2021. Launched in Japan in October 2017, the anime was initially planned to run for 51 episodes, before its success led to its extension with new broadcast cycles in 2018 and then 2019. The series also gained significant international exposure through its availability on Crunchyroll, as well as its English-language broadcast on Funimation and as part of Adult Swim’s Toonami block. In June 2023, the franchise also returned with the film Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King, which was released in Japan and offered simultaneously internationally on Netflix.
Created by Yūki Tabata, the Black Clover manga began publication in February 2015 in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump. After several years of weekly publication, the series moved to the quarterly magazine Jump Giga in 2023, adopting a less frequent publication schedule. Internationally, the manga continues to be offered in digital and print editions by Viz Media, while Shueisha also publishes it through its MANGA Plus service. With its return now set for October 2026, Asta, Yuno and the Magic Knights are poised to be one of the major anime events of the fall.
