Shochiku Co., Ltd. and CyberAgent, Inc. officially announced on May 7, 2026, the launch of the TV anime adaptation of The World Is Dancing. The series will begin airing and streaming on July 2, 2026. To accompany the announcement, an official key visual and a main trailer were revealed, offering a first look at the project’s tone and artistic ambition.

The new trailer also highlights the opening theme “Shusyo,” performed for the first time by Macaroni Empitsu (TOY’S FACTORY). Several character illustrations were also shared, along with a wave of new cast members: Takahiro Sakurai will voice the powerful shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, alongside Nobuo Tobita (Nijo Yoshimoto), Mamiko Noto (Nariko), Inori Minase (Chiharu) and Hazuki Seto (Satsuki).

The main cast includes Yumiri Hanamori (Oniyasha), Simba Tsuchiya (Ishiya), Maaya Uchida (Kogane), Romi Park (Zojiro), Katsuyuki Konishi (Kan’ami) and Haruki Ishiya (Junigoro). On the production side, the anime adapts Kazuto Mihara’s manga, which was serialized in the weekly magazine Morning (KODANSHA). Toshimasa Kuroyanagi is directing, with Keigo Sasaki handling character designs and Sawako Kawamitsu overseeing series composition and script, while the music is composed by Daisuke Shinoda and the sound design is supervised by Yukio Nagasaki.

The original work, a short series spanning six volumes, stood out for its story and timeless themes, and its English version is available online through Kodansha, with a free preview of Chapter 1. The story takes place in 1374, amid the turmoil of the conflict between the Northern and Southern Courts: Oniyasha, born into a family of sarugaku theater performers, is haunted by a simple question: why do people dance? The day he witnesses a dance he considers “good,” everything changes: thus begins the journey of a young boy destined to shape the art of Noh and be remembered as Zeami.
