The anime Sentenced to Be a Hero is finally taking shape with the release of a new trailer confirming a highly anticipated January 3 premiere in Japan. Adapted from Rocket Shokai’s light novel, the series also reveals its theme song, “Kill the Noise,” performed by SPYAIR, with an excerpt featured in the promotional video. Initially scheduled for fall, the project had been postponed, making this announcement all the more significant for fans. The first episode will receive a special one-hour broadcast, followed by regular broadcasts on numerous Japanese channels and streaming platforms, including Amazon Prime Video and Crunchyroll.
As for the cast, the production continues to expand its world with Yūichi Nakamura joining the cast as Rhyno and Saori Ōnishi as Frenci Mastibolt. New character visuals have been unveiled, along with a brand-new illustration highlighting the mysterious Couveunge Forest, a key setting in the story. These visual elements confirm the project’s artistic ambition and offer a more concrete glimpse of the dark and epic atmosphere awaiting viewers.
Direction is being handled by Hiroyuki Takashima at studio KAI, alongside an experienced team working on the writing, design and music. The story is built around an original concept in which becoming a hero is a punishment imposed on the worst criminals, who are condemned to fight endlessly through resurrection. Featuring deities, ambiguous contracts and the fate of the world, the work is also continuing its development as novels and a manga, confirming its lasting presence in the Japanese fantasy landscape.
